IC+LSC = Student Success

In keeping with the idea of creating more efficiencies on campus and looking for changes that can benefit our students the following moves will be taking place over the next several weeks.

The Learning Support Center currently located in the SA Building will be merging with the Information Commons in the TE building.

Change is always a challenge; however, the merger of the Information Commons and the Learning Support Center has been initiated on behalf of our students. As you know, the Information Commons is open 69 hours per week, and the Learning Support Center is currently open 56.5 hours. With the merger, tutorial assistance will now be available an additional 12.5 hours. The two staffs will share the operational hours, and for a while the learning curve will be steep because of the cross-training involved, so please be patient.

What does this mean for faculty and students alike:

The new hours:
Monday – Thursday 7:30-9:30
Friday & Saturday 7:30-3:00

Make-up tests will now be available Monday through Saturday.
The last test will be administered by 7:30 pm M-Th and 1:00 pm on Fri & Sat

The IC and LSC will be a one-stop service for students and faculty.
Tutorial hours are increased
Computer availability increased
Increased software support
Increased computer assistance
Doubling printing and copying services
Decreased time and effort for students in search of assistance.

Win/Win for centralized services!!!!!!!

Dr. Hafner has met with all employees that are involved in this move and listened to ideas and concerns that they wanted to share. He believes that all those involved see this as a very positive move for our students.

The Learning Support Center space will be utilized by security, student activities and special services. These moves will take place in the next two to three weeks and allow us to remove 5 portables, 3 on the south side of the gym and the two on the north side of the gym. The 3 portables on the south side need to be taken out through the construction site before the first phase begins which should be December.

Music Festival planned for Nov. 10, 2007

The SPC ROCKS! Music Festival is Nov. 10 from noon to 6 p.m. at the gymnasium on the St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus.

Five bands will participate: Too Little Too Late; This Transmission; Magic Shoppe; Feminine Assault; and A.N.D.Y.

Admission is $8 in advance, or $10 at the door. Proceeds will benefit the SPC Foundation, Inc. for SPC music scholarships. Tickets are available in Room 118 of the Humanities Building on the St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus.
